We all want to be healthy, especially during times like these. The truth is the COVID-19 pandemic has really brought health to the forefront. It’s made people more aware of their immune health and how to keep it boosted. That’s one good thing that’s coming from all of this.

A lot of times health gets put on the back burner due to the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. This isn’t good for our LUXE lives. We’re always on the run, working late, and rushing around, all of which leave us wanting any down time that we can scoundrel up to rest. And working from home hasn’t changed any of that. Working from home, studying, keeping the house clean, and for some, caring for children still monopolizes all the time. While fighting for time to rest or time period, we get sucked into a revolving cycle of meals on the go, such as fast food, or quick precooked microwave or oven dinners full of preservatives and high in sodium that aren’t the healthiest. When we don’t eat healthy, we don’t get all the nutrients our bodies need to keep our immune systems operating at their best. Even when we do, we still may not get the full daily amount our bodies need.

The Power of a Smoothie

5 easy tips for preparing smoothies

Well I’m here to tell you that a healthy quick fix exists too! The want to be healthier doesn’t slow down our lives, but we have to make it work. This is why smoothies are so great! Smoothies are quick and easy and can be healthy and tasty. They’re a great option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner as an addition or a meal replacement. They’re vehicles for nutrients, supplements, vegetables, and or fruits we don’t like or don’t normally get enough of in our diets. They decrease cravings and keep you from snacking on junk food throughout the day, which aid in weight loss.  And if you want the opposite, smoothies can help you gain weight as well. That’s why I’m here to give you 5 easy tips for preparing smoothies.

How can it do both you ask. Magic! Lol, no. Its all about how you prepare them. And preparation isn’t just deciding you want bananas one day and strawberries the next. It also requires a little research, which isn’t such a bad thing. We research everything else. Why not research what we’re putting in our bodies and why. There are various types of protein powders, supplements, and even fruits that can help you gain weight. All of the above can also help you lose weight. I’ll get into those specifics another day. Today I’m here to give you 5 easy tips for preparing smoothies. But the gaining processes deal with increased calories, carbs, and calorie to muscle transformation via protein. The weight loss processes deal with increased satiety, which is the feeling of fullness.

And let’s not forget all the green vegetables and supplements that can be added and all the delicious fruits. Either way you like to prepare your smoothies, the healthier, the better. Try to avoid sugar, artificial sweeteners, juices high in sugars, and other hidden additives that make your smoothie less than healthy. Fruits have natural sugar and sweeten up the smoothie on their own. If your supplements are overpowering the natural sweet taste, try a healthier sweetener like agavae or date sugar.

How I Started My Smoothie Journey

My smoothie journey started randomly. We keep a lot of fruit in my house, so I figured why not. I started off using all fresh fruit in my smoothies. I wasn’t adding any supplements at the time. Just a tasty treat for the mornings. I used to always ask my boyfriend if he wanted one, and he would say no. Then one day I guess it looked good to him, so he wanted to taste it. And yea, you know the rest. Making a smoothie for one became making smoothies for two, which made the process longer. So, these 5 easy tips for preparing smoothies really help me out, especially when it became a consistent thing. The supplements didn’t come along until I started heavily researching what my body needed for me to be alkaline vegan. Check out —> My Amazon Health & Wellness Store Front <— for the supplements I add to my smoothies and checkout —> “8 Benefits of Sea Moss & How to Add it to Your Lifestyle” <— to see all the wonderful benefits of sea moss.

I am back on the alkaline vegan train, so my biggest concern is maintaining my weight. And because I’m alkaline, I go by a stricter diet. My protein is hemp or chickpea, even though my favorite protein is pea protein. I like to use bananas in my smoothies as well because they thicken it up, but they also have the added benefit of increased calories and carbs. Mangos have a high calorie and carb content too, and they’re just so delicious! I eat guac with everything because I love it and it’s high in healthy fat, but I’m still too scared to add it to my smoothies.

5 Easy Tips for Preparing Smoothies

1. Prep your materials in advance
Treat it like you’re meal prepping…. Actually, you are. Preparing your materials in advance looks like bagging your fruit for the week. This also helps with portion control in my house when I’m not the one preparing the smoothies, even though I usually am. I can say, “grab one bag of fruit out of the freezer,” and hope that he listens lol. Bagging supplement additions for the week can also be very helpful, especially if you add multiple. The less you have to pour into the blender before starting it the quicker it is to make the smoothie, which is the goal. Now pre-bagging supplements can get to be a little difficult when preparing smoothies for more than one person, but its very possible with labeling and will really cut down a lot of time, which is the goal.

2. Have machinery already clean
This one doesn’t call for much explanation. If you clean it right after you use it, it’ll already be good to go the next time you need to use it. However, this technically slows down the “on-the-go” process. So, if it gets cleaned with the nightly dishes, you should be good to go in the morning.

3. Stay stacked up
Buy what you can in bulk or large sizes. Never let anything run out. If the goal is creating a healthier lifestyle, you want to always have the materials needed to stay consistent. No excuses.

4. Stretch your juice
I’m sure juice can go quick in any household, whether it’susing juice for smoothies every morning or people wanting to enjoy a glass or two or three of juice because it tastes good. You need at least a little juice when preparing a smoothie unless you’re using a lot of ice. Make your juice last by cutting it with coconut water or coconut milk. The more powdered supplements you add, the more liquid you will need. You could always use water, but that waters it down in my opinion.

5. Blend well
This is important, especially if you opt to make your smoothies the night before. The more powdered supplements you add to a smoothie, the thicker they’ll get. Blending well ensures your smoothie isn’t too thick or gritty.
